April 28, 2011, UNI MiniSumo Competition video is posted
The 2011 MiniSumo Invitational ShipIn Competition is complete, and the video is posted. (We also hope to create video clip 'highlights.')
Gizmo, built by UNI Chemistry graduate student Kevin O'Conner was the overall winner, just edging out ExSpurt, built by Rick Brooks. ExSpurt was the defending champion, and was the overall winner for each of the previous three years, 2008-2010. Because Kevin O'Conner built and entered two sumo robots, Gizmo and Gremlin, at one point Kevin had two robots competing against each. Gizmo ended up taking first, place and Gremlin third. ExSpurt placed second.
Special thanks to the builders of our visiting robots: 1. Rick Brooks (ExSpurt), 2. Bradford Howland (JunkBot), 3. Pete Miles (Black Marauder), and 4. the Graettinger-Terril high school robotics team, consisting of Zach Benedict, Andrew Aeilts, Jacob Schmitt, Brandon Peyton and Zach Harris. Graettinger-Terril sent two robots, Dreadnaught, and Tiger.
Gratetting-Terril is the first high school to send a robot to our event. They also are now on record as the first high school team to defeat another sumo in our event!
