2011 Summer Camp completed

The University of Northern Iowa 2011 MiniSumo Robotics Camp, taught by Dr. Dale Olson, was held from June 20 to July 1, 2011. The cost was $300.  The residential option was added by two students from San Diego, CA, (The extra cost for the residential option was a little less than $600.)  Students completed the construction of effective mini-sumo robots, and learned to read and write basic Isomax (Forth) programs, including state machine code.  Elements of circuit theory were reviewed, using bulbs and resistors.  Every student constructed one circuit using a printed circuit board, for the purpose of creating a near-range sensor.  Each student left the camp with a fully operable mini-sumo robot.  For the purpose of demonstrating their robots in classes at their school during the upcoming year. out-of-state students, traveling by plane, were provided with a highly portable practice arena made from heavy duty paper.  For students traveling by car, a light weight 5/16" composition board arena will be loaned to their high school.
